remote graphic designer. action sports, full throttle.

James Stanley is a senior graphic designer considering remote Senior Graphic Designer and Art Director roles with action, extreme, and adventure sports brands. He has served action sports and lifestyle clients through Bluejacket Creative since 1994, co-founded the apparel brand #DontSuck in 2012, and works across apparel graphics, branding, photography, video, and motion graphics.

built for brands that don't sit still.

Action sports audiences can smell a fake from a mile out. They know the riders, the gear, the spots, and the difference between a brand that lives the culture and one that rented it for a photo shoot. Design for them has to carry energy without looking like a template, and it has to hold up on a hang tag, a trailer wrap, a phone screen, and a forty-foot banner.

I am James Stanley, Creative Director and Owner of Bluejacket Creative since 1994. I am considering remote Senior Graphic Designer and Art Director roles with action sports, extreme sports, and adventure sports brands, including motorsports and off-road lifestyle companies.

why action sports

Bluejacket Creative has always had one foot in action sports and lifestyle. Over the years that has meant identity systems, apparel graphics, event materials, product photography, and video for brands whose customers ride, race, climb, or build things in their garage on weekends. Automotive and aftermarket work with names like Hoonigan and HRE Wheels lives right on that same line between performance and culture.

#DontSuck: apparel from the inside

In 2012 I co-founded #DontSuck and have designed its apparel ever since. Running an apparel brand teaches lessons a client brief never will: how print methods change a design, what sells versus what only looks good on a mockup, how a drop is planned, and how a small brand builds a community that actually wears the shirt. That experience makes me a stronger designer for any action sports company with a softgoods line.

what I bring to an action sports team

apparel and softgoods graphics

Screen print-ready art with real color separations in mind, embroidery-friendly marks, hang tags, labels, and seasonal line graphics. I design for production, not just for Instagram.

brand identity with attitude

Logos, lockups, type systems, and brand guidelines that let a brand be loud without becoming inconsistent. Identity work from Bluejacket is shown on the branding page.

photo, video, and motion

I shoot and edit. Product photography, lifestyle and event coverage, edited reels, and motion graphics for social and broadcast are all part of my daily toolkit. For a lean action sports marketing team, a designer who can also deliver the content is a force multiplier.

events and retail

Trade show booths, event signage, team and rider materials, retail POP, and print collateral, built to survive real-world conditions and still look sharp.

digital

Website design and development experience means e-commerce graphics, landing pages, email, and social templates that match the rest of the brand.

discipline behind the energy

The look of action sports is loose. The work behind it is not. My visual training started with a BFA in Graphic Design from Brooks Institute and was sharpened by more than ten years as a U.S. Navy Mass Communication Specialist after 9/11, where deadlines were real and accuracy was not optional.

Since July 2019 I have also been Senior Graphic Designer and Digital Media Content Creator at New Benefits in Dallas-Fort Worth, producing high-volume B2B2C marketing, motion graphics, and video for several audiences at once. That role is a different world from action sports, and it has made me fast, organized, and very good at keeping a brand consistent across a flood of deliverables. Those habits are exactly what a growing action sports brand needs when the season ramps up.

the role I am looking for

  • Remote only. Based in Mineola, Texas. Happy to travel for shoots, events, trade shows, and team planning.
  • Title. Senior Graphic Designer or Art Director, with Marketing Director considered for a strong fit.
  • Industry. Extreme sports and adventure sports, plus automotive, automotive aftermarket, insurance, and employee benefits.
  • Agencies. Only agencies that specialize in action sports, motorsports, autosports, or automotive.
  • Compensation. Competitive senior-level compensation for the scope of the role.

seasons, drops, and events

Action sports marketing runs on a calendar that does not move: product drops, race and contest seasons, trade shows, and holiday pushes. I plan creative backward from those dates, build reusable templates for recurring formats, and keep a library of photo and video assets so the team always has fresh content when an event or launch arrives. That rhythm is what keeps a brand visible all year instead of only during launch week.

how I work with a remote team

Clear briefs in, organized files out. I share work early, keep revisions focused, and document templates and brand rules so the rest of the team can move fast without me in the loop on every asset. When a shoot or event needs someone on the ground, I travel or brief local shooters with detailed shot lists.

see the work

Start with photography and videography for the motion and lifestyle side, then graphic design and branding for identity and print. Brands I have worked with are listed on clients.
